Color Reduction and Pattern Re-Coloring in Photoshop

In this section we will get our workspace set up for this project. This means making sure the relevant tools and windows have the best placement for facilitating our workflow and then we will save that "Workspace".

In section 2 we will examine and compare the different Index color settings that Photoshop offers.

In section 3 we will reduce the number of colors of the rose pattern from millions to 24. This is a fairly straight forward step without any complications. We will also discuss the saving of our files which is also known as the "curation" of files.

In section four we will be reducing the colors from 24 to 16, possibly more or maybe less.
There is truly an art to color reducing and each designer's results will not be the same.

In section five we will be reducing the colors from 15 - 18 to 6.
This is where we further ourselves as color artists by maintaining the visual integrity of the rose pattern. This is our challenge here.

In section six we will be reducing the colors from 6 to 4.
The challenge still remains the same, maintain the visual integrity of the rose pattern or even enhance it.

In this final color reduction section, we will be performing an image manipulation that will generate a very interesting variation of our rose pattern. The techniques we will use in this section are quick, easy and effective!
